  • Where does the name Floyd come from?

    The name Floyd harkens back to co-founder Kyle Hoff's family name — Kyle’s great-grandfather, grandfather, and father all share the first name Floyd and were all once steelworkers in Youngstown, Ohio.

    Where are Floyd products manufactured?

    Floyd products are designed in Michigan and manufactured by our partners across the US.

  • Once I place an order, can I cancel or change any details?

    Once an order is placed, it is generally not possible to cancel or change it in any way. If you realize you need to request a change, please contact our Customer Experience team here immediately and we will do our best to accommodate your request but unfortunately, it is not guaranteed.

    Can you do custom orders?

    Sorry, we do not accept any custom order requests at this time. This includes any custom colors or custom dimensions for our products.

    Do you have any discount codes?

    We occasionally offer discount codes — the best way to stay up to date is to sign up for our email newsletter.

    Where can I see Floyd in person?

    Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Floyd Shop in our Detroit HQ is currently closed.

    You can see specific Floyd products at a participating AirBNB through Stay Floyd or in our Floyd in the World locations. Please be sure to call each location before visiting to ensure they are open and available to view.

    Do you offer pickups at the Floyd Shop?

    Unfortunately, we do not offer pickups from the Floyd Shop in our Detroit HQ as we do not hold any inventory there.

    Can you tell me more about the materials Floyd selects?

    • Steel — sturdy enough for skyscrapers, steel is recyclable and once powder coated, can truly last a lifetime.

    • Natural Linoleum — many of our tables are available with a linoleum surface — we sourced our natural linoleum from the Netherlands.

    • Birch — there is a lot of birch in the world, but Floyd selects ours specifically within the Baltic variety.

    • Walnut — American-grown, FSCⓇ Certified black walnut (Juglans nigra).

    All of our products are designed and manufactured right here in the US!

    Can I use Floyd products outdoors?

    We do not recommend leaving your Floyd products outside because prolonged exposure to the elements can cause corrosion and some cosmetic wear and tear on Floyd products. Additionally, we are unable to cover any defects or damages to any products showing signs of prolonged outdoor use as it voids our warranty.

  • Do you offer financing options? What is Affirm?

    We do! For select items you can choose to finance your purchase via our third-party partner Affirm. We offer 3, 6 or 12 month financing options at as low as 0% APR — your APR is determined by Affirm directly, and is based on your credit. All products eligible for Affirm financing will be noted on their product page, and Affirm will be listed as a payment option during checkout.

    Please note, Floyd does not determine approval for an Affirm loan. Approval is based on your credit history. If your loan is denied and you would like more information, please contact Affirm’s customer support here.

    Once approved, your loan will take effect once your order has shipped. For more information on your monthly billing cycle, amount left due or additional questions on your payments, please contact Affirm’s customer support here.

    Will my card be charged at checkout or time of shipment?

    • Credit card: If you purchased using a credit card, your card will be charged at the time of checkout for both in stock and backordered products.

    • Affirm: If you completed your purchase using the Affirm loan financing option, your loan will not be activated until your order ships. Once shipped, your payment schedule will be based upon the loan terms you agree to with Affirm.

    What is a backorder?

    Popular products may sell out and temporarily be on backorder. This means that the products are currently out of stock with more on the way. Ordering a product that is currently on backorder is a worry-free way to ensure that you will be first in line for the new inventory and that the product you ordered will be sent out to you as soon as we receive it!

    • You will be notified via a shipping confirmation email (with tracking details) once your order has shipped. You will not need to contact our Customer Experience team, or do anything to follow up on your order. We will take care of it for you from here on out!
    • If you place an order for multiple products, your complete order will not be shipped until all items are available. If you would like your new Floyd to ship separately to avoid any unnecessary delays of items that are in stock, please contact our Customer Experience team here to request that your order be split.
    • We will do our best to estimate when backordered items are expected to ship, and post this information on the product page by color/size variation, underneath the “Add to Cart” button. This is only an estimation and is subject to change — shipping dates are not guaranteed.

    My item is backordered, can I cancel the order?

    Once an order has been placed, we cannot guarantee that a backordered item can be cancelled. Our suppliers and warehouse move quickly, but it is a process. They often begin building and packing days before orders go out the door. Once an order is in this process, we do not have as much flexibility to cancel or prevent an item from shipping.

    In order for a cancellation to be attempted, the request must be received no less than 5 days before the communicated ship date noted on site at the time of purchase. You may request a cancellation by contacting our Customer Experience team here. We will do everything we can to accommodate your cancellation but unfortunately, it is not guaranteed.

    My card was declined! Can you tell me what happened?

    Due to the nature of online transactions, the details we can see are very generic. Unfortunately, it could be a variety of factors. We recommend calling your card issuer to resolve this. Most likely, there is a hold placed on your account as part of their fraud prevention service. If you used a debit card, make sure there are sufficient funds in your account before proceeding. Make sure the correct billing address associated with your card was entered. If it is different than your shipping address, there is a checkbox that you can uncheck to reveal more address fields. Also, make sure all your card information was entered correctly. Did you get a new or replacement card recently? Even though the number remained the same, the expiration date and security code may have changed!

    After you figure out what happened, please clear your browser's cache before trying to checkout again.

    I tried placing my order, but received a card error. Did my order go through?

    If you see any card errors during the checkout process, no orders were processed and no charges were made to your account. Upon a successful checkout, you will be directed to an order confirmation page and will receive an order confirmation e-mail within 30 minutes (please be sure to check your spam folder).

    What is the $1.00 charge to my card account?

    Once you enter your billing information, the $1.00 charge you see in your account is how our store communicates with your bank. Rest assured, the amount will be credited back to you.

    I am having trouble checking out. Can you manually process my order?

    Sorry, we cannot. To protect our customers' information, we require all transactions be handled through our website. If you are having trouble with checkout, please contact our Customer Experience team here and we would be happy to help troubleshoot any error you’re experiencing.

  • Is there a shipping charge?

    Yes, all of our products ship for a 10% shipping fee. Depending on which item you purchase, it will ship via:

    • Standard FedEx/UPS Ground: 10% of product total
      Applies to all Sofas, and orders totaling under 100 lbs
    • Outdoor delivery to your address, Monday through Saturday, 8am-8pm. Scheduling is not available and no signature is required.
    • Standard Freight Delivery: 10% of product total
    • Applies to all Beds and orders totaling over 100 lbs (excluding the Sofa)
      Scheduled home delivery, Monday through Saturday, 7am-8:30pm.

      *In consideration of your health, we have worked with our freight partner to offer no-contact delivery. If you would like your order delivered outside your door with no signature required, please request a porch delivery exception and signature waiver during your scheduling phone call with our freight partner.

    Do you offer assembly or delivery to any room in my home?

    Our Beds as well as orders totaling over 100 lbs. are eligible for room of choice delivery.

    • Room of Choice Delivery: 10% of product total + $49
      Scheduled delivery inside your home to your room of choice, Monday through Saturday, 7am-8:30pm. Does not include set-up, assembly or packaging removal.

    • White Glove Assembly: In consideration of your health and the health of our delivery partners, we have temporarily suspended White Glove Assembly.

    Why don't you offer free shipping?

    We do not offer free shipping because the reality is, free shipping isn't free. The cost of “free” shipping is often included directly into the cost of the product itself.

    To be sure you know exactly what you are paying for, we elected to charge a flat 10% shipping fee on the retail cost of our products instead of increasing prices and keeping the shipping "free."

    Which carriers do you use to ship?

    Domestically, we ship via FedEx Ground, UPS Ground and a Scheduled Freight Partner.

    What is the shipping and delivery timeline?

    In stock orders are immediately transferred to our warehouse for processing and once your order is ready to ship, you will receive your tracking details via email.

    If a product is out of stock, the estimated shipping window will be noted under the "Add to Cart" button on the product page.

    • Deliveries via FedEx/UPS Ground:
      Once your order has shipped, delivery generally will occur within 2 - 9 business days, depending on your location.
      • Due to the way FedEx/UPS handles their shipment volume, if your product contains multiple packages (i.e. the Shelving System, the Sofa, etc.), they may arrive on separate days. Unfortunately, this is out of our control.
      • If you ordered multiple products with different shipping timelines, your order will be held and will ship out when all products are available. If you would like to split your items so in stock products are shipped immediately, please reach out to our Customer Experience team here
    • Deliveries via our Scheduled Freight Partner:
      Shipping timeline with Scheduled Freight Partner Due to the developing circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we are experiencing longer than usual transit times. During this time, your items should be available for scheduled delivery to your home within 2 - 5 weeks from purchase. Once your order reaches the local hub, you will be contacted by our freight partner to schedule delivery to your address within 3 business days.

    How do I schedule my delivery?

    Scheduled Freight Delivery:
    Once your order arrives at your local delivery hub, you will receive a phone call from our freight partner to schedule the day of its delivery to your home. Deliveries can take place between 7am and 8:30pm, Monday-Saturday. It is not possible to select your preferred delivery appointment so please select a day you can be available anytime between 7am-8:30pm. You will be provided a 4 hour delivery window the evening before your delivery day and can opt in to email and text notifications for real-time delivery updates. On the day of delivery, our partner will contact you ~30 minutes before they will arrive at your home.

    FedEx/UPS Ground Delivery:
    If your order ships via FedEx/UPS Ground, a scheduled delivery is not available. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking details once the order has shipped.

    Are there any specifics I should know about my Scheduled Freight Delivery?

    • An adult must be present at the time of delivery and pets must be clear from the delivery area.
    • Please provide a clear path, both indoors and outdoors, for the delivery team to ensure successful delivery (and assembly, if purchased).
    • The delivery team is not able to assist in removing any furniture or complementary components from your room or home — they cannot disassemble and remove your old bed or mattress in order to assemble your new Floyd Bed.
    • Assembly and packaging removal are only included with White Glove Assembly.

    Can you expedite shipping?

    No, we are not able to accommodate expedited shipping at this time. All shipping timelines are communicated in checkout before placing an order.

    Can I ship my order to a PO Box?

    Only the following items can be shipped to a PO Box:

    • The Shelf Brackets
    • The 16” Legs
    • The Utility Set

    What about Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico?

    We are not able ship outside of the contiguous US at this time.

    Do you ship internationally?

    We do not offer international shipping at this time.

    Do you ship to FPO and APO addresses?

    We are not able ship to these addresses at this time.

  • What is your return policy?

    Floyd was conceived to be a simpler way to buy furniture — we do our best to make returns as simple as possible too.

    That’s why for all furniture purchases we offer free returns within 30 days of delivery, in the original packaging. (For White Glove Deliveries, please refer to the question regarding White Glove Delivery returns below).

    • Only returns requested within 30 days of delivery and in the original packaging will be accepted.
    • Original shipping and delivery fees are nonrefundable.
    • Only purchases made from floydhome.com within the contiguous US qualify for free return shipping within 30 days of delivery.
    • All packages being returned must move back into transit with the approved carrier within 30 days of receiving the return labels.
    • We DO NOT accept international returns.
    • We DO NOT accept returns from Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

    For the Mattress, we offer free returns for both opened and unopened Mattresses within 30 days of delivery. Unopened Mattresses will be shipped back to us while we offer the option to donate opened Mattresses to a local 501(c)(3) organization or can provide removal for a $100 recycling fee. Please see more details on the Mattress returns process below.

    What are the steps for initiating a furniture return?


    Step One: If you’re not pleased with your Floyd furniture purchase, please complete a returns form within 30 days of receiving your order.

    Step Two: Once submitted, our Customer Experience team will process your request and send you a pre-paid return shipping label(s) or assist in arranging a return pickup via our Scheduled Freight Partner, depending on your original delivery method. You should expect to hear back from us within 3 business days.

    Step Three:

    • For items delivered via FedEX/UPS: Safely repackage the Floyd product(s) in the original packaging, affix the provided labels and drop it at a local FedEX location. You are generally responsible for getting the returned product to the carrier.
    • For all items delivered via our Scheduled Freight Partner: a return pickup will be scheduled based on your availability.

    Step Four: Once received at our warehouse, our team will inspect the item(s) — please allow up to 5-10 business days for processing. Provided the item(s) is in good condition, we will issue your refund for the price of the product, but original shipping and delivery fees are nonrefundable.

    What are the steps for initiating a Mattress return?

    If you’re not pleased with your Floyd Mattress purchase, please contact our Customer Experience team here within 30 days of delivery, confirming if your Mattress is opened or unopened. Our Customer Experience team will follow up within 3 business days.

    • Unopened Mattress: You will receive a pre-paid return shipping label from our Customer Experience team. Please safely repackage the Mattress in the original packaging and drop it at the nearest FedEX location. You are generally responsible for getting the returned product to the carrier.
    • Opened Mattress: You will have an additional 30 days after initiating your return to donate the Mattress to a local 501(c)(3) organization. Once donated, please send your proof of donation (a forwarded email or image of the donation that is clearly specific to the Floyd Mattress) to your return request email thread so your refund can be processed. We have a small list of donation organizations to check out here.

      If you’d prefer for us to remove the mattress, we can arrange a pick-up at your home and haul it away for a $100 recycling fee. We ask you to take steps to ensure the Mattress isn’t tossed into a landfill. We know that roughly 20 million mattresses are thrown away each year in the US alone, and even recycling has its limitations, so we invite you to be thoughtful about where your unused Mattress will go.
    • How do I return a White Glove Delivery without packaging?

      All returns made for a White Glove Delivery must be requested within 30 days of delivery. Please fill out the returns form and our team will reach out with next steps to schedule a return pickup.

      All other returns without packaging will not be accepted. This only applies to White Glove Deliveries.

      I received a damaged or defective item in shipment. What should I do?

      So sorry to hear that! Please contact us here within 10 days of delivery with the following information:

      • ORDER NUMBER
      • FIRST & LAST NAME
      • EXPLANATION OF DAMAGE/DEFECT
      • PHOTOS OF DAMAGE/DEFECT

      Our Customer Experience team will follow up with you within 3 business days to make arrangements for a replacement or refund, as necessary. No restocking fees or return shipping costs will apply.

      Tracking shows my package was delivered but I cannot find it! What should I do?

      We’re here to help! Please reach out to our Customer Experience team here and we will be happy to help you track your package down. To help us resolve the problem as quickly as possible, please provide us with your name, order number, and the address where you are expecting the delivery.

      We must be notified within 7 business days of the marked date of delivery in order for a replacement to be initiated.

      Do you accept exchanges?

      We currently do not facilitate exchanges, but instead encourage customers to return your product via the process outlined above and re-purchase the item of your choice!

    At this time, we do not offer our products for wholesale purchase.

    What is your lead time for bulk orders?

    The standard lead time for bulk orders is 30 days, but lead times can vary depending on order quantity.

  • What materials is the Sofa made from?

    The Sofa is made with powder coated steel legs and finished birch plywood panels or upholstered radiata pine plywood panels, depending on if you choose a Birch or Upholstered Sofa, respectively. The seat cushions have a polyurethane foam interior while the back and arm cushions have a synthetic feather fill. The fabric is made from 95% polyester and 5% nylon which we chose specifically to allow for sofa cushions that are stain-resistant and easy to clean.

    How many people can sit on the Sofa? How much weight can it hold?

    Depending on the configuration, the Sofa sits 2-4 people comfortably.

    Additionally, the Sofa has a tested weight capacity of 300 lb. per seat.

    Do I need any tools for assembly or disassembly of my Sofa?

    You’ll need a Floyd Tool, which is included with your purchase of the Sofa! If you lost it, the Floyd Tool uses a standard allen wrench. Either 4mm or 5/32" will work.

    Should I be worried about any off-gassing?

    No! All of the wood components in the Sofa meet the TSCA Title VI and CARB Phase II standards for off-gassing. The foam used in the cushions of the Sofa is below regulatory standards for VOC emissions and is in full compliance with ISO 14184-1:2011.

    Does the fabric contain any flame retardants or chemicals?

    Our Sofa is free of chemical flame retardants and the fabric is in full conformance with California Proposition 65. Similar to Patagonia's Durable Water Repellent, we chose a shorter-chain C6 fluorocarbon-based treatment because it breaks down faster over time and is less harmful to the environment.

    Is it normal for the Sofa to have an odor upon delivery?

    Some people may notice a light smell for the first few days, but it should go away within the first week. The smell comes from the newly-made foam used in the seat cushions. The foam used in the cushions is under regulatory limits for VOC emissions and is in full compliance with ISO 14184-1:2011.

    If the smell persists for more than one week, we recommend placing a fan near the sofa, or temporarily placing the seat cushions in an area with good ventilation — like a porch, entryway, or garage — when not in use to help dissipate the smell.

    Do the Sofa legs come with anything to protect my floors?

    Yes! The Sofa legs come with glides already installed to protect your floors. You shouldn’t need any additional protection.

    The Sofa cushions aren’t attached — will they slide out from under me?

    No, the Sofa cushions shouldn’t slide, even as you move around! The design of the frame holds the cushions in place with the help of friction between the base and the cushions themselves.

    How do I clean the fabric?

    • In General: For light spills, blot with a paper towel. For tougher spills, use a mild soap and water mix. To make the soap and water mixture, take 1 teaspoon of a liquid detergent (such as Tide) and mix it with 16 oz. of water in a bowl or plastic container — do not over wet the material. Cushion covers should not be removed and laundered — doing so could diminish their stain-resistance.

    • Liquid Spills: When cleaning a liquid spill, immediately blot the fabric surface with a cloth/towel to remove the spilled liquid. To spot clean the spilled area, soak a clean cloth/towel in a soap and water mixture and clean the stained area in a gentle circular motion. If needed, take a damp, clean cloth and go over the affected area to remove any soap residue from the fabric. Do not over wet the material. If the soap and water mixture does not remove the stain completely, then repeat the above process using a multi-purpose cleaner (such as Woolite Fabric and Upholstery Cleaner). Cushion covers should not be removed and laundered — doing so could diminish their stain-resistance.

    • Non-liquid Spills: When cleaning a non-liquid spill, immediately remove the excess spilled material from the fabric by lifting the spilled material off the affected area with a butter knife and accumulating the spilled material onto a cloth/towel. To spot clean the spilled area, soak a clean cloth/towel in a soap and water mixture and clean the stained area in a gentle circular motion. If needed, take a damp, clean cloth and go over the affected area to remove any soap residue from the fabric. Do not over wet the material. If the soap and water mixture does not remove the stain completely, then repeat the above process using a multi-purpose cleaner (such as Woolite Fabric and Upholstery Cleaner). Cushion covers should not be removed and laundered — doing so could diminish their stain-resistance.

    The fabric is stain-resistant but not stain-proof. Regular spot-cleaning and maintenance is recommended. Stains that ARE NOT likely to be removed by the methods above include, but are not limited to: oil-based products (such as salad dressing and lotion), wax-based products (such as candle wax and crayons), ink marks and mustard. For any of these stains, we recommend consulting a professional upholstery cleaner.

    Can I remove the covers and machine wash them?

    No — any spot cleaning of the fabric should be done with the covers on the cushions, using the cleaning methods outlined above only. Cushion covers should not be removed. Machine washing the Sofa cushion covers will damage their stain-resistance. For deeper cleans of your Sofa, professional cleaning is recommended.

    I have a pet — do the cushions hold onto smells?

    Our fabric should not hold onto the majority of pet smells. If for whatever reason, you notice an odor, we recommend placing a fan over or near the Sofa to help dissipate the odor.

    Will the Sofa cushion fabric fade in direct light?

    Like most fabric, the Sofa cushions may fade over time if placed in direct light. If you would like to avoid the natural fade of fabric, we recommend shielding the Sofa from direct light.

    Why are the seat cushions shaped like a wedge?

    The seat cushions are slightly wedge-shaped to provide a more comfortable sitting position.

    Can I flip the seat cushions over?

    Yes, as long as the zipper is facing the back, the seat cushions can be flipped over.

    Why do the Sofa cushion covers have zippers?

    The cushion covers have zippers because the covers are manufactured separately — they are then put on the cushions and sealed post-production. Zippers help with this process! The zippers are NOT there to allow for the covers to be removed from the cushions. We don’t recommend removing the cushion covers as they may be difficult to get back onto the cushions. To ensure that your cushions are resting on the Sofa correctly, the zippers should always be facing the back. Do not place the cushions so the zippers are facing the side or front as this will affect the design and comfort of the Sofa.

  • What configurations does the Shelving System come in?

    The Shelving System comes in two overarching configurations: Tall and Short. There are four Tall Shelving Units: Tall, Wardrobe, Display and Tall with Cabinet, and two Short Shelving Units: Short and Short with Cabinet.

    The Wardrobe Shelving Unit comes with a bar that allows you to hang clothing, the Display Shelving Unit comes with one angled shelf that allows you to show off your favorite magazines or art and the Tall and Short Shelving Units with Cabinet come with our Cabinet at the bottom to allow you to store some of your necessities out of sight.

    What materials is the Shelving System made from and what colors does it come in?

    The shelves are powder coated sheet steel and the wood supports are made out of birch plywood with ash or walnut faces. The ash wood supports have exposed ply on the edges, while the walnut wood supports have walnut veneer on all four sides. All wood supports are finished in a water-based, clear matte finish.

    We offer the Shelving System in Black, White, and Forest Green.

    Is there anything I should not place on my Shelving System?

    We recommend not resting any items that generate heat (candles, kitchen appliances, etc.) on your Shelving System as the heat can cause long-term damage to the powder coating.

    Does the wood off-gas any VOC’s?

    The wood supports are CARB II and TSCA Title VI Certified – the highest government standards for formaldehyde off-gassing.

    Does the Shelving System require any tools for assembly?

    Yes. For assembly you will need to use a 4mm (5/32”) hex tool that is included with your new Shelving Unit.

    For installing the wall anchor kit, you will need additional tools. Be sure to grab a power drill, a Phillips head screwdriver, and/or a hammer.

    Does the Shelving System need to be attached to a wall?

    We highly recommend placing the Shelving System against a wall and securing the Tall Shelving Units with the wall anchor kit provided to help prevent serious injuries from furniture tip-overs. The risk of serious injury due to furniture tip-over is reduced with the Short Shelving Unit because it is under 35 inches, but the risk is not eliminated. We also recommend placing the Short Shelving Unit against the wall and encourage you to be mindful of placing these units in a safe area for all members of your home.

    To further reduce the risk of furniture tip-overs:

    • Place heaviest items on the lowest shelves.
    • Do not set TVs or other heavy objects on the top of the Shelving System.
    • Never allow children to climb or hang on the Shelving System.

    All Tall Shelving and Expansion Units come with a wall anchor kit. Remember, this is especially important in homes with young children or pets. You can find instructions for installing the wall anchor system in the instruction manual.

    The wall anchor kit is in compliance with ASTM F3096-14, the standard performance specification for tip-over restraints. Note that the use of tip-over restraints may only reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of tip-over.

    Are the individual shelves adjustable?

    Each middle shelf (not the fixed, top or bottom shelves) within every Shelving Unit has three height options, allowing you to easily adjust it up and down in order to fit your most prized possessions perfectly. Resting at their center heights, each shelf is 11 5/8" from one another and you have the option to raise or lower them 1 1/4", based on your needs.

    You can also remove middle shelves as desired to create even more vertical spacing between shelves. The bottom and top shelves in any Shelving Unit must remain installed at all times to maintain structural integrity.

    How do I expand my existing Floyd Shelving System?

    The Shelving System has nearly endless modularity options! It’s truly a chance for you to express your own style and find an option that fits perfectly within your space. Expansion Units are available to grow your Shelving System with additional units on either side.

    Each Expansion Unit shares the center wood supports, so for example, when attaching an additional Tall Expansion Unit to an existing Tall Shelving Unit, you will receive one package containing the shelves, and one package containing two new wood supports (rather than four). Attach the new Expansion Unit next to your original Shelving Unit, using the existing original wood supports to anchor both.

    • Any Tall Expansion Unit (Tall, Wardrobe, Display and Tall with Cabinet) as well as the Short and Short with Cabinet Expansion Units can be added to any existing Tall Shelving Unit.

    • Only Short Shelf Expansion Units can be added to an existing Short Shelving Unit.

    If you have a Short Shelving Unit and would like to add a Tall Shelving Unit, you will need to purchase the complete Tall Shelving Unit (rather than a Tall Expansion Unit), because you will need four tall wood supports (the Short Shelving Unit would then be added to the Tall, and you would have two extra short wood supports). You cannot attach a Tall Expansion Unit to a Short Shelving Unit.

    How much weight can the Shelving System hold?

    Each individual shelf has an approximate weight limit of 65 lb.

    Therefore, the Short Shelving Unit has a weight limit of 195 lb., distributed appropriately across each of the 3 shelves and the Tall Shelving Unit has a weight limit of 390 lb., distributed appropriately across each of the 6 shelves.

    The Display Shelving Unit has a weight limit of 35 lb. for the one angled Display Shelf, and a weight limit of 325 lb., distributed appropriately across each of the other 5 shelves.

    The Wardrobe Shelving Unit has a 50 lb. weight limit for the wooden clothing rod and a weight limit of 195 lb., distributed appropriately across each of the 3 shelves.

    The Short Shelving Unit with Cabinet has an overall weight limit of 225 lb., distributed appropriately between the Shelf and Cabinet. Be mindful, we recommend the interior half-shelf within Cabinet hold no more than 30 lb.

    The Tall Shelving Unit with Cabinet has an overall weight limit of 550 lb., distributed appropriately between the Shelves and Cabinet. Be mindful, we recommend the interior half-shelf within Cabinet hold no more than 30 lb.

    How should weight be distributed on the shelves?

    We recommend placing your heavier items on the lower shelves of your Shelving System (here’s looking at you, avid record collectors!). Even distribution horizontally across the shelves is also recommended so be sure to keep this in mind during your shelf curating process.

    How many records will fit on my Shelving Unit?

    Our recommended weight capacity is 65 lb. per shelf. To stay under this weight limit it works out to about 100 LPs including album covers per shelf. The height of a record is only able to fit if you assemble your individual shelves at their highest possible configuration. Doing this means, that on a Tall Shelving Unit, only up to 3 shelves will be able to fit records and for the Short Shelving Unit, only 1 shelf may hold records.

  • How are the panels finished?

    The panels are finished with a light clear coat that is UV sealed.

    Are variations in the wood grain and color of my panels normal?

    Yes! Wood is a natural material, so it is expected for each panel to have slight color, texture, and grain variations.

    We use real wood veneer in the construction of all our Floyd products. With any natural product, a variation in color is expected — you can see differences based on the species of tree, the forest it came from, even the time of year it was harvested! We’ve developed a color spectrum for all of our wood products, so while your panels may not come from the same place (and may have a different tone), we know they’ll look great together!

    We designed Floyd to last a lifetime and encourage you to grow with your products, allowing them to take on a new form as you need them. Once a King Bed for your bachelor pad is now two Twins for your twins. As a note, we cannot guarantee color matching over the life of your Floyd but we don’t think Mother Nature really makes mistakes.

    Can I exchange my current panels for another finish?

    While we do not facilitate exchanges, you can purchase panels for any size Bed by visiting our Bed Panels page.

    I like the exposed edge of the Birch panels, do you have that available for Walnut?

    While our Birch panels show the exposed, plywood edge, our Walnut panels feature full-grain edge banding on all four sides. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer exposed Walnut panels or Birch panels with edge banding.

    Where is your walnut sourced?

    Our Walnut panels are finished in American-grown, FSCⓇ Certified black walnut (Juglans nigra) veneer and made right here in the US! Learn more about FSC Certification here.

    What makes the panels different from just any piece of wood?

    The panels are constructed with a honeycomb core, allowing them to be lightweight without compromising their strength.

    Can I alter my panels, either by refinishing or cutting them?

    We do not recommend altering your panels. They are UV sealed with a light clear coat, and are not solid wood throughout. Cutting, sanding or rounding them will damage their structural integrity.

    Do the panels off-gas VOCs?

    The panels are produced to meet the highest government standards for VOC off-gassing. There is very little off-gassing, if any at all.

    I have a Full mattress — can I use it with the Bed?

    While we don't make a Bed specific to a Full mattress, you can absolutely put a Full mattress on our Full/Queen Bed, and many customers do! With a Full mattress, you will just see a bit more of the panels! Alternatively, a Full mattress will not work on our Twin Bed.

    Does the King Bed work with a California King mattress?

    The King Bed without the Headboard is 89” wide and 86" deep — definitely big enough for a California King mattress. With the addition of the Headboard however, the depth of the King Bed cannot accommodate a California King mattress. The Headboard causes the mattress to sit a just a bit further away from the wall and can cause your California King mattress to hang over at the foot of the Bed. For this reason, we do not recommend pairing a California King mattress with our King Bed with Headboard.

    Can I modify the size of my Bed, and if so, how do I do that?

    Yes! The Bed is meant to be modular, so that’s exactly what we’re hoping you’ll do! Here are the following combinations you’ll need:

    • Twin → Queen : 2 Middle Supports + 1 Panel
    • Queen → King : 2 Middle Supports + 1 Panel
    • Twin → King: 4 Middle Supports + 2 Panels

    You can purchase these components with our Expansion Kit.

    Will my mattress slide around?

    The weight of your mattress, coupled with your body weight, prevents most mattresses from sliding on the Bed. However, if you find your mattress slipping, we recommend placing a rug pad, cut to size, between your mattress and the Bed to ensure there is enough friction to keep your mattress firmly in place!

    Can my mattress breathe on the Bed?

    Unless you live in an incredibly humid climate, there's no need to worry about your mattress breathing. While the Bed does not allow for as much air supply to your mattress as a traditional slatted frame, this should not be an issue — be sure to clean up any spills from the mattress and panels, along with any other moisture that may accumulate.

    If you do live in a humid climate or space, we recommend that you use a dehumidifier to ensure you are providing the proper environment for the longevity of your Bed. Visit our Warranty page for more information.

    Can I increase the height of the Bed?

    No, we do not recommend increasing the height of your Bed. There is no way to do this without compromising its structural integrity.

    Can the Bed withstand intense action ;) ?

    We know what you are thinking, and yes, the Bed can withstand lots of action and will not make a sound.

    What mattress & bedding would you recommend with the Bed?

    We recommend the Floyd Mattress and Brooklinen for bedding! The Bed cannot be used for a mattress with an adjustable or mechanical base such as the Tempur-Pedic adjustable base.

    How do I use the ratchet straps?

    Check out the Bed Assembly Video around minute 2:55 or the Underbed Storage Assembly Video around minute 0:15 to see how to use the ratchet straps when assembling your Bed.

    My ratchet strap is too long. What do I do?

    If you have excess length after setting up your Bed, you can wrap it around the strap itself or cut it off with scissors — be sure to leave a bit of length to make re-assembling in the future easier.

    How do I release the ratchet strap?

    To release the strap, hold down the release bar; the spring bar on the longer side of the ratchet, and open the ratchet all the way until it stops. Pull the strap down and away from the ratchet until it loosens.

  • How large of a TV can the Media Console hold?

    We recommend the Media Console for TVs up to 65”.

    What is the weight limit of the Media Console?

    That depends on which Media Console configuration you have!

    • The wide shelf on top of the Media Console (where we expect your TV will go!) can support up to 65 lb.
    • If your Media Console includes any Cabinets, each can support 65 lb. on top of the Cabinet, and 65 lb. inside the Cabinet (no more than 30 lb. on the small interior half shelf, please!).
    • If you have shelves on the lower part of your Media Console, each individual shelf can support 65 lb.

    Can I integrate the Media Console with other Shelving Units?

    Absolutely! The Media Console can be used on its own or assembled in an infinite number of combinations amongst other Shelving Units to make your perfect Shelving System.

    If you would like to add a Media Console Expansion Unit onto Shelving Units purchased before October 12th, 2020, we may need to send you replacement wood supports, depending on how you plan to assemble your Shelving System. These replacement supports will be free once you add the Media Console Expansion Unit to your cart!

    What’s the difference between placing my TV on the Media Console rather than two Short Shelving Units?

    The Media Console has a continuous wide shelf along the top that spans the complete width of two shelving units, while the top shelf on a Short Shelving Unit has a raised edge. When two Short Shelving Units are assembled together, these raised edges make it difficult for a TV to rest on top while ensuring its stability (ie: we do not recommend placing your TV on top of two Short Shelving Units!)

    I have so many cords! Am I going to have to look at them all the time?

    We’ve got you covered — we are including magnetic clips you can use to wrangle them. Out of sight, out of mind! The clips will attach to the back of the Media Console wood supports to keep your cords contained, and your space free of visual clutter.

    Is there anything I should not do with my Media Console?

    We recommend not resting any items that generate heat (candles, heaters, etc.) on your Media Console as the heat can cause damage to the powder coating over time.

  • Can I install my Cabinet anywhere on my Floyd Shelving Unit? Can I install more than one Cabinet on the same Floyd Shelving Unit?

    The Cabinet can only be installed at the bottom of your Shelving Unit and will replace both your bottom shelf and the second shelf up! You can only install one Cabinet onto a Shelving Unit.

    Can my Cabinet be added onto a previously-purchased Floyd Shelving Unit?

    Yes, it can! Purchase the Cabinet Add-On and replace your bottom shelf and second shelf up with the Cabinet.

    What materials is the Cabinet made from and what colors does it come in?

    The Cabinet is made out of 16-gauge steel and the doors are constructed using birch plywood with an ash or walnut face. The Cabinet comes in the same White, Black and Forest Green powder coating as our Shelving System.

    Is there a way to run cables through the back of the Cabinet so I can hide some electronics inside?

    Yes! We’ve added two holes in the bottom of the Cabinet so you can run any cables out to plug in your electronics. We suggest placing your Shelving Unit directing up against a wall which is why we opted for adding these holes into the bottom of the Cabinet and not the back.

    How do the Cabinet doors stay closed?

    The Cabinet doors have a push-to-open mechanism. To open, lightly press on the doors and the latch will release. To close, press the doors gently closed, re-engaging the latch.

    How are the Cabinet doors finished?

    Similar to the Shelving System wood supports, the Cabinet doors are made out of birch plywood with an ash or walnut wood face, finished with a water-based, clear matte finish.

    Is there anything I should not place inside my Cabinet?

    We do not recommend allowing any sort of burning or smoking item, like a candle or incense, to rest within the Cabinet. Additionally, we suggest not resting any heat-generating items on or within your Cabinet as it could damage the powder coating. We also recommend wiping up any spills as soon as possible.

    How much weight can the Cabinet hold?

    65 lb. can rest on top of the Cabinet and another 65 lb. can sit inside on the bottom of the Cabinet. The interior middle shelf within the Cabinet should not have more than an additional 30 lb. resting on it (we think it's an excellent place for your gaming console or smart TV system!).

    This means that the Short Shelving Unit with Cabinet has an overall weight limit of 225 lb., distributed appropriately between the shelf and Cabinet. The Tall Shelving Unit with Cabinet has an overall weight limit of 550 lb., distributed appropriately between the shelves and Cabinet.

    Can the Cabinet be installed on a Wardrobe Shelving Unit or Display Shelving Unit?

    Absolutely! The Cabinet can be added to any Shelving Unit, replacing the two bottom shelves.

    The prices of the Birch and Walnut Tables reflect the higher cost of their respective veneers, as well as the more intricate manufacturing process for this type of surface. Each Table features the same steel legs and we know any of them will look beautiful in your space.

    How do I clean the Table?

    • Linoleum: For basic cleaning, the best way to clean the surface of the Table is to use 1 part dish washing liquid (such as Dawn, etc.) to 1 part water. Do NOT use Windex or other harsh cleaning supplies on the surface, as this could damage or warp the linoleum. For minor scuffs, use linseed oil (boiled or unboiled), which can be found at your local hardware store or online. Apply the oil directly to the affected area and let sit for 5 minutes. Then, using a damp cloth, buff the area in a circular motion. Allow the area to dry completely before using. You may need to reapply and repeat this process a few times to fully remove blemishes.

  • I currently own a Floyd Table/Desk. Will my Floyd Table/Desk surface work with the Standing Desk base?

    No, unfortunately it won’t! Floyd has designed a custom surface that will accommodate the Fully Jarvis base. The Table and the Standing Desk do not use interchangeable components.

    Is the height of the Standing Desk adjustable?

    Yes! The Standing Desk quickly and quietly adjusts from 25.6” tall for sitting on the floor to 51” tall for standing.

    How much weight does the Standing Desk support?

    The Standing Desk can support up to 350 lb.

    Does the Standing Desk have wheels?

    Wheels are not included with the Standing Desk but if you're interested in making yours more mobile, you can purchase these casters directly from Fully! They thread easily into the feet of the base and individually lock to provide stability when you need it.

    How do I operate the OLED touch programmable handset that comes with my Standing Desk?

    Can I use a monitor arm with the Standing Desk?

    Absolutely! Monitor arms can only be installed on the back of the Standing Desk, not the sides. Due to the nature of the angled edge of the Standing Desk, you will need a monitor arm with a C clamp at least 1” deep — anything less will not install securely. A Fully Monitor Arm is not compatible with the Standing Desk.

    Will Fully accessories work with my Floyd Standing Desk?

    Due to the design of the Floyd Standing Desk surface, Fully accessories which are installed onto the surface (such as their monitor arms, privacy panels, surge protector and wire management kit) will not be compatible. Other Fully accessories, such as their anti-fatigue mats, LED desk lamp and file cabinet can be purchased to go with your Standing Desk.

    Is my Standing Desk covered under any warranty?

    Yes, your Standing Desk is covered by the Floyd 10 Year Warranty.

  • Does the Mattress sleep hot or cold?

    The Mattress has a Tencel top layer that is highly breathable for temperature regulation, and bonus, it’s resistant to bacteria! It also has a Copper Graphite Cool Flow™ foam layer infused with copper and graphite to help dissipate heat. The combo of these two makes for a well regulated sleeping temperature. The inner springs sleep up to 28% cooler than foam, and are proven to be 26% more durable than foam encasements.

    Will the Mattress work with any bed frame?

    It sure will! While the Floyd Mattress is best suited for platform beds (i.e. the Floyd Bed), it will work with any slatted bed frame. If using a more traditional bed frame that requires a boxspring, you can place the Floyd Mattress directly on the boxspring.

    Floyd offers 5 sizes of mattress - Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen and King.

    And just because we offer both a Bed and Mattress, it doesn’t mean you have to bundle with us. You can purchase a Floyd Mattress to go with your West Elm bed or an Avocado mattress to go with your Floyd Bed — we just want you to have as much information as possible to purchase confidently.

    What is the weight capacity of the Mattress?

    Thanks to high-quality materials and construction, the Mattress can comfortably support individual sleepers up to 350 pounds with no discernible loss of comfort or support.

    Will my Floyd Bed + Mattress be delivered together?

    When you purchase your Floyd Bed and Mattress at the same time, yes, they will be delivered together by our Scheduled Delivery Partner! If you purchase both items separately though, they unfortunately will not be delivered together — the Mattress will arrive via FedEX and the Bed via our Scheduled Delivery Partner.

    How does the Mattress feel?

    We wanted to design a mattress that you didn’t just want to take a nap on. We wanted to bring you a mattress that you could spend all of your cave days and cozy nights on. Call in to work sick kind of comfortable. And we think we got it just right.

    When you lay on the Mattress, it has a gentle yet supportive reception, that cradles you like a thousand tiny hands, relieving your pressure points. The foam has give to allow you to sink in, and the springs provide the support to align your spine and make you feel weightless. Plus our signature copper graphite infused layer keeps a well-regulated temperature all night long.

    We conducted some customer interviews before launching the Mattress to see how best to communicate comfort to you. On a scale of 1-10, the average rating for firmness was a 7, which is a pretty sweet spot to be in. Some keywords customers used to describe the Mattress during testing were "cool," "supportive," "squishy" and "comfortable."

    I like my mattress to be super soft, is this a good fit for me?

    The good news about a hybrid mattress like ours is that it conforms more readily to all sleep styles. We polled customers before introducing the Mattress and asked what they would like to see. The resounding response was that they wanted support. So the Mattress provides a little bit of both support and softness, leaning more on the supportive side. User testing rated the Mattress as a 7 on a 1-10 scale of soft to firm. If you try Floyd and prefer a little extra softness, our customers have reported that adding a topper was successful in providing extra plush to their sleep. That being said, if you need a 1-6 softness, you can try the Mattress with confidence, knowing we have a 30-day, environmentally-friendly trial and return policy.

    I need the firmest mattress out there, should I try Floyd?

    We performed user testing and on a scale from 1-10 of soft to firm, the Mattress was rated a 7! Is our mattress on the far end of the firm spectrum? Not exactly — but is it supportive? Yes. That being said, if you need a 10, you can try the Mattress with confidence, knowing we have a 30-day, environmentally-friendly trial and return policy.

    I sleep on my back, should that be a problem?

    As you should! Sleeping on your back provides the best alignment for your spine and you are more suited to all kinds of mattresses. So Floyd should be right up your alley! The good news is that hybrid mattresses like ours are more adaptive to all different kinds of sleep styles.

    Can you sit on the side and not slide off?

    The edges of the mattress have a higher gauge steel coil, providing a little extra support to keep you from rolling off of the Mattress mid-slumber.

    How do I unbox the Mattress?

    1. Start by opening one end of the box. Place the open end of the box down, and then lift the box up.

    2. Place the compressed Mattress on your bed and remove the outer plastic. Be sure to recycle! (Check your local guidelines for recyclability). Then, unroll the Mattress.

    3. Cut the inner bag carefully as to avoid cutting the Mattress' upholstery. You will hear a rush of air as the Mattress expands. Completely remove the inner plastic bag.

    4. After one hour the Mattress will be fully decompressed and ready to use!

    Do I need a cover on my Mattress?

    The Mattress cover is not waterproof or removable/washable, so for extra protection, we’d recommend adding a waterproof mattress protector.

    Can I flip the Mattress over?

    No, the Mattress is constructed with distinct layers of foam and coils and has a specific top and bottom that helps support you when you sleep. You can, however, rotate the Mattress 180 degrees.

    How should the Mattress be cleaned?

    The best way to keep the Mattress clean is to use a waterproof mattress protector. For general care and cleaning, we recommend washing your bedding weekly. We also recommend rotating your Mattress 180 degrees every six months or so (not flipping it – the Mattress is constructed with distinct top & bottom layers). This will help prolong the life of the Mattress. At the same intervals, we advise vacuuming your Mattress with an upholstery attachment (and your Bed, while you’re at it!). The Mattress has a Tencel cover that is naturally hypoallergenic, but vacuuming it can help remove any dust that naturally accumulates over time.

    For any spills, first dab the area with a clean cloth to absorb as much of the spill as possible. If needed, you can spot clean spills and stains with cold water and a mild soap or detergent. Do not use bleach.

    Does the Mattress require a box spring?

    There is no boxspring required for a platform, or slatted bed frame. If you have a bed frame that requires a boxspring, the Mattress can go right on top.

    What kind of foam is used in the Mattress?

    The Floyd Mattress uses 3 different densities of CertiPUR-US® certified foams, making sure you have plush support and proper alignment, however you like to snooze. Learn more about CertiPUR-US® here.

    Is there any off-gassing from the foam in the Mattress?

    Due to our CertiPUR-US® foams, there are very low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million).

    When you open your new Mattress, you may notice a light scent at first. Please know that this is due to the contents being under pressure, and will dissipate within a few days as the Mattress acclimates to its new environment.

    Is there any latex in the Mattress?

    Rest assured, we considered allergies when choosing the materials for the Mattress, and we chose to go latex free.

    What kind of warranty does the Mattress come with? What is covered?

    Do you offer a trial period for the Mattress?

    In the spirit of designing things to be kept, if you’re not satisfied with the Mattress, we ask our customers to take steps to ensure it isn’t tossed into a landfill. We know that roughly 20 million mattresses are thrown away each year in the US alone, and even recycling has its limitations, so we invite you to be thoughtful about where your unused Mattress will go.

    If you’d like to return the Mattress, you have 30 days from receiving your order to initiate a return. Once initiated, you’ll have an additional 30 days to donate the Mattress, and receive a full refund with proof of donation. If you’d prefer for us to remove the Mattress, we’ll come to your house, and take it away for a $100 recycling fee.

    What is the Mattress Recycling Fee?

    New laws in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island now require retailers to collect a small fee at checkout for each mattress sold. The fees are then transferred to the state to fund their recycling efforts. The collection of fees is mandated by these new laws. Even if you aren't getting rid of a mattress now, you will eventually and the collection of fees now help to cover those costs down the road. The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC), a non-profit organization established by the mattress industry, created and manages the program. The MRC utilizes a network of organizations to effectively pickup, transport and recycle old mattresses within the new government regulations.     Is there anywhere I can try the Mattress before purchasing?

    You can try out the Mattress by visiting the Floyd Shop in Detroit (currently closed due to COVID) or Brooklinen in Brooklyn, NY. But if you cannot make it in to try before you buy, as with all things Floyd, we have a 30-day return window. If after 30 days, you aren’t 100% thrilled with the Mattress, please reach out to us here to arrange a return. You will have another 30 days to donate it to a local charity for a refund (minus the cost of shipping), or we will schedule a pick-up for it to be recycled for $100 fee. Check out the details here.

    What should I do with my old mattress?

    To make room for your new Floyd Mattress, we recommend donating your mattress, if possible. You can use our list of resources here as a guide. If you live in Connecticut, Rhode Island or California, you can have your mattress recycled for free.

  • Can the Headboard be used with any size of the Bed?

    The Headboard is available in two sizes: Queen and King. The King Headboard is unfortunately not compatible when using a California King mattress. With the current design, we are not able to offer a Twin Headboard.

    Is The Headboard angled?

    The Headboard is angled back slightly (79.5 degrees from the back of the Bed). With your steel brackets placed 2” from the end of the panels though, this angling should not mean that the Bed takes up a larger footprint in your space.

    Is the Headboard made from the same material as the Bed panels?

    Yes! The Headboard is made with the same American-grown, FSCⓇ Certified walnut or birch veneer as our Bed panels. Similarly, they are also constructed with a honeycomb core, keeping it lightweight without compromising its strength.

    Does the Headboard off-gas VOCs?

    Like the Bed panels, the Headboard is produced to meet the highest government standards for VOC off-gassing. There is very little off-gassing, if any at all.

    Can I alter my Headboard panel, either by refinishing or cutting it?

    We do not recommend altering your Headboard panel. It is UV sealed with a light clear coat, and is not solid wood throughout. Cutting, sanding or rounding it will damage its structural integrity.

    Can I make my own Headboard?

    Definitely — you can purchase Headboard Hardware on its own to make a new Headboard (from the material of your choice!) for your Floyd Bed.

  • What does the Underbed Storage consist of?

    The Underbed Storage is a storage system designed specifically for use with the Floyd Bed. The unit is a canvas basket pull out drawer with a steel wire frame. It’s attached to two Bed steel end supports that incorporate drawer slides.

    Please note: Ordering the Underbed Storage will result in two additional end supports, made specifically to attach the Underbed Storage to your Floyd Bed. We encourage you to save your original end supports in case you want to set up another Bed in the future. The Floyd Bed is modular, which means you can always upgrade to a larger size or downgrade to a smaller size by using the system of parts in different ways!

    How does the Underbed Storage work?

    Once assembled, the Underbed Storage works like a drawer that is attached to your Bed. You can pull it out to place items in it and push it closed to store your goods.

    The storage basket sits recessed from the edge of the Bed by 2.125”.

    What is the weight limit for the Underbed Storage?

    The Underbed Storage can hold up to 80 lb.

    How far out does the drawer extend when it’s fully opened?

    The drawer extends 15.5" out from the Bed when fully opened.

    What type of fabric is used?

    We use 18 oz. Cotton Canvas for the Underbed Storage.

    Is the canvas washable?

    While the canvas is technically removable, we don’t suggest machine washing it. Because it is a heavier weight canvas, it is actually water resistant! We suggest spot cleaning with warm water & soap, and dusting for general cleaning. You can remove the basket to hang dry if needed. The steel end supports can be wiped down with a damp rag.

    Can I put two Underbed Storage kits on any Floyd Bed?

    Yes! You can add one Underbed Storage kit to either side of your Floyd Bed, totaling two units per Bed – it works with Twin, Queen, and King Beds.

    Note: You cannot add two Underbed Storage kits to the same side and they cannot be added to end of the Bed.

    Does the Underbed Storage work with other bed frames?

    No, we’ve designed the Underbed Storage exclusively for the Floyd Bed.

  • What is the Framework?

    The Framework is everything you need to make a Bed, except for the panels! The Framework allows you to source your own panels to make a customized Bed.

    How do I source my own panels? What dimensions should I look for?

    Sourcing your own panels is easy! You can look up a local establishment that sells wood and give them a call with the dimensions you are looking for — if you would like to make panels that are the exact size as the panels we provide with the Bed, you will ask for 86” long x 22” wide x 1.5” thick. The 1.5" thickness is very important to be sure your panels sit properly in the Framework.

    You can make your panels any length or width you would like though, as long as your mattress will be fully supported by the panels (there should be no overhang). If you would like your panels to be flush with your mattress, you can determine their size based on the size of your mattress. Keep in mind that a Twin Framework includes supports to hold 2 panels, a Queen Framework includes supports to hold 3 panels, and a King Framework includes supports to hold 4 panels.

    Note: you can use two 0.75” pieces of wood glued together to get the 1.5” thickness. Similarly, outside of the US, you can use two 19mm pieces of wood to get a 38mm thickness. This will still work just fine :)

    I've actually decided I want to purchase the panels from Floyd, can I do that?

    If you previously bought the Framework but now would like to purchase the Panels, you most certainly can! We sell panels as a single, or for Twin, Queen or King Beds here.

    If I source my own panels, how can I get them treated? Why should I treat the wood?

    When sourcing your own panels, we recommend using plywood and sealing it with a clear, water-based polyurethane. This process gives the wood a more “finished” look and can help protect your panels against any moisture.

    What is the measurement of the Framework "tab"?

    The "tab" is the part of the Framework that hooks over your panel and shows on the surface. The "tab" portion is 2" long x 2" wide.

  • What is the maximum weight the Utility Set can hold?

    The maximum weight we recommend for the Utility Set is 125 lb., including the surface you select. However, it depends significantly on the material you are using for the surface.

    What size surface can I use with the Utility Set?

    The maximum table surface size is 8' x 4' with a maximum diagonal of 9'. The minimum thickness your surface should be 1.5” and the maximum thickness should be no more than 1 ⅞" — a 2" surface will be too thick.

    What are the dimensions of the Utility Set?

    The Utility Set is 29.5” tall. The corner piece that hugs the corner of your surface material will take up a 2” x 2” square on top of the surface material. The depth of the mouth of the leg is 2”.

    How much does the Utility Set weigh?

    The Utility Set includes 4 legs and weighs 16 lb. in total.

    Does the Utility Set work for round surfaces?

    The Utility Set cannot be used with round surfaces. It is designed to hug the corners of a rectangular surface.

    Can I add casters or leveling feet to the Utility Set?

    For your convenience, there is a hole in the bottom of each leg of the Utility Set where a threaded leveling foot or caster wheel can be added — the thread size is 5/16"-18. Alternatively, we include cork pads to apply to the bottom of the legs as well to use them exactly as they are!

    How do I use the ratchet straps?

    After setting up the straps, open the ratchet until it stops (3 clicks). Feed the strap through the slot in the middle of the ratchet, from the back to the front. Pull the strap all the way through, then crank the ratchet back & forth until the strap is tight.

    My strap is too long. What do I do?

    If you have excess strap length after setting up your Utility Set, you can wrap it around itself or cut it off with scissors.

    How do I release the ratchet straps?

    To release the straps, hold down the release bar; the spring bar on the longer side of the ratchet, and open the ratchet all the way until it stops. Pull the strap down and away from the ratchet until it loosens.

  • What is the recommended use for the 16” Legs?

    The 16" Legs are perfect for light to medium-use surfaces, such as a coffee or bedside table. We do not recommend using them to create a bench. In other words, please do not sit on them!

    What is the weight limit for the 16” Legs?

    For the 16" Legs, the maximum weight we recommend for both surface material and anything resting on top of the table is a total of 75 lb. combined.

    What are the recommended dimensions for the sourced surface used with the 16” Legs?

    The diagonal of your surface should not exceed 56". The minimum thickness we recommend for your surface is 1.5” and the maximum thickness is 1 ⅞" — a 2" surface will be too thick.

    What are the dimensions of the 16" Legs?

    The 16” Legs are 16” tall, 2” wide and the tab on the top of the 16" Legs is 2” x 2”.

    How much do the 16” Legs weigh?

    The 16" Legs include 4 legs and the entire set weighs 8 lb.

    Can the 16” Legs work with round surfaces?

    Yes, the 16” Legs can be used with round surfaces. The leg will not sit flush against the round surface, but you can certainly use them to make a round coffee or bedside table!

    Do you have standing height legs?

    While we won't offer standing height legs to build your own table, we do offer the Standing Desk, which comes complete with a surface, to offer you more versatility for your WFH space!

    I want to purchase just one leg, is that possible?

    16" Legs are only available for purchase as a set of four.

    Can I put casters on the 16" Legs?

    Unfortunately the 16" Legs are not able to accommodate casters. They do not come with any holes drilled in the base of the leg to accommodate these or other additions.

  • Is there a weight limit for the Shelf Brackets?

    The maximum weight we recommend being supported by the Shelf Brackets is 50 lb., which includes both the surface itself as well as any items placed on the shelf. That being said, it greatly depends on the surface material you use, as well as the wall material and mount.

    What is the minimum and maximum thickness for a surface material?

    The minimum thickness for your surface used with the Shelf Bracket is 1.5” and the maximum thickness is 1 ⅝" — a 2" surface will be too thick. Keep in mind the thickness of your material when determining the width and depth of your surface material!

    What are the dimensions of the Shelf Brackets?

    The Shelf Brackets are 5.5” deep, 7 ¾” tall, and 2” wide at the base of each bracket and 1 ¾” wide at the top of the bracket.

    How much do the Shelf Brackets weigh?

    The Shelf Brackets include 2 brackets — for the left and right side of your surface material. The complete set weighs 4 lb.

    What is the maximum size shelf which can be made from the Shelf Brackets?

    We recommend your shelf be no deeper than 12” and no wider than 56”.

    How do you attach the Shelf Brackets to the wall?

    There are many ways the Shelf Brackets can be installed, depending on what they will be holding as well as the wall material on which they will be mounted. The Shelf Brackets come with 4 stainless steel Phillips head screws and wall anchors (if necessary). Please keep in mind that different walls require different wall hardware. How much weight your shelf can hold will depend on your wall material and the hardware used for installation — if installing in studs, you do not need the wall anchors, but if you are installing in drywall you will need the wall anchors. Contact your local hardware store if you are not certain what you should use in your space!

  • Does the Hardware come with surface materials?

    No, we do not sell our Hardware — the 16” Legs, the Utility Set or the Shelf Brackets — with a surface. Your creativity is required! We suggest checking out lumber mills, reclaimed wood warehouses, or antique stores for surface materials.

    What kinds of surface materials do people typically use?

    Plywood found at a lumber store, custom table tops, old doors, marble slabs, laminated wood, concrete — you name it and it's probably been used! The material properties of your surface material will determine the load capacity and stability of your table or shelf.

    For example, a piece of 0.5" thick plywood should not be used to make a table or shelf that is 6' long. Please view the Utility Set, the 16” Leg and the Shelf Brackets product pages for additional dimension and weight recommendations for sourcing your own surface.

    Are there any surface materials that you don't recommend using?

    We recommend avoiding the following surface materials:

    • Medium-density fibreboard (MDF)
    • Particle board
    • Acrylic
    • Glass
    • Any surfaces that are warped

    What are some things I should be aware of when sourcing the right surface for my Hardware?

    You should have an idea of the dimensions of your project. This is very important for the end result.

    • For instance, any wood surface 2' or wider should be at least 1" thick to prevent cupping, which is what happens when a thin piece of wood curls instead of laying flat

    Prices can vary significantly according to the size of your cut and species of wood you select. Your local lumberyard can advise on what kind of wood is best for your purposes.

    • For instance, maple is great for heavy-use tables, while a species like American cherry might be better suited for side tables. American cherry has a softer grain, which makes it more prone to dents and scratches. Some types of wood we typically recommend are birch, maple, ash, or walnut. Plywood is typically cheaper than solid wood but just as strong if you are working on a budget.

    If you are looking for a clean finish or an even base for staining or painting, be sure to pick up some sandpaper or ask your lumberyard if they can sand your surface for you.

    How is the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table different from the Floyd Side Table?

    The surface of the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table is made from post-industrial recycled polypropylene with additives of colorful HDPE (high-density polyethylene). Unlike the knife-edge of the original Side Table surface, the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table has a straight edge. The steel legs, fasteners and assembly are the same though!

    What is the weight capacity of the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table? Can it be used as a stool like the original Floyd Side Table?

    The Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table can safely hold up to 200 lb., and just like the Floyd Side Table, it can be used as a stool.

    Is the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table sealed?

    No, there is no sealant applied to the surface of the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table — the surface is finished smooth, but there may be slight bumps or imperfections due to the nature of how the material is formed. The underside of your Side Table surface is intentionally textured and shows how post-industrial recycled polypropylene appears before being sanded and finished.

    How should I clean my Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table?

    The surface can be dusted regularly and in the event of any spills, use dishsoap and water to clean — please, no harsh chemical cleaners!

    Is there anything I should not do with the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table?

    We recommend keeping the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table out of direct sunlight to avoid any color fading. And while the surface can absolutely handle some heat, we always recommend using a coaster for any hot items you need to rest on it.

    Can the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table be used outside?

    Like all other Floyd products, we do not recommend using the Thing Thing X Floyd Side Table outside. Exposure to the elements could compromise its finishes and longevity.
